Recovering

August 25th, 2009 at 9:19pm MST by Melissa

I just talked to Morgan for a quick minute- he is out and recovering in his room.  Mom will spend the night with him and we are hopeful and praying that he gets some sleep.  The pain has been unbearable and has kept him up for several nights.  In fact, I can’t remember the last time he told me he slept well.  The steroids and pain have really caused trouble.  He’s in need of some good sleep tonight.

I found more info on the procedures of today.

PS.  Thank you for your prayers today!

I’m glad to have Melissa’s posts on the blog again! As you can see by the date/time it’s Tuesday night, after the surgeries, and I’m not sleeping. I ate when I returned to the room and both Kasha and my mom were here. Kasha left near 10pm and then Marsha stayed until just now (2:30am). I thought it best that she go home and get some solid sleep, since there’s nothing she can do for me here right now and my current steroid/irritation factor makes me crave alone time and zero distraction (plus, I want the thermostat turned way down).

My patient tech just came into to take my vitals. Turns out, I have a minor temperature– 100.3 degrees. I usually run a degree below normal. Just had her crank the thermostat.

I want to give more details about the night in a separate blog post, so I won’t go into everything now. I’ll just end by saying thanks to you all for thinking about me. It’s not so rough right now, so don’t worry about me.

  2. I’m on at last! Been following since the beginning and wishing to be able to comment. And indeed it’s great to see Melissa posts. If I were in the States I’d hitch to Phoenix and am jealous of Franks power in that regard. As it is, I’ll settle for the net, but if Morgan’s ever got the web cam up and time to kill I’m on skype and finally on ADSL2+ so video is flowing. Hard for me to choose a time, but I want it out there as an offer. For now, pull through the latest treatments for us big man! And may the pain abate …

The pain pump seemed to be working great on Tuesday and Wednesday, after the surgery. I did not have any pain at all in my right leg, only extreme numbness. Thursday, the pain came back.

I called Kasha and asked her to get to the hospital as soon as she could so that we could go through some new pain problems I was having. She agreed to meet at 9:30am. I was frightened about some of the issues, including a restricted throat. Doctors & nurses were saying that half my symptoms were recurring and couldn’t be pinpointed to any one issue.

The day had me taking a ton of morphine and Dilaudin by IV. Not much accomplished except for an increase in pain pump concentration by Dr. Stearns’ office. By the time 9pm rolled around last night my leg was again numb. Pain had died down.
